Following the recent completion of the HistorX Escort MkI & GTTC Trophy's, which saw Jon Hallas taking both driver titles, and Lemtech doing the double in the Team Championships, a new Season of Historic GT/TC racing will start again on Wednesday 7th March.
The new season will feature 7 cars from the V1.9 HistorX B0 & B1 Classes, and to challenge for the Championship, entrants will need to follow the RaceConnect 'Challenge' Rules.
The Season plans to visit: Mid-Ohio, Watkins Glen, Brands Hatch, Oulton Park, Reims, Charade 2006 & Rouen 55-70.
Races will be held over 60 minutes in daylight, but will feature a mandatory pit, as seen in previous HistorX series.
CHALLENGE SERIES RULES
In order to be eligible for championship points, entrants need to choose and race in a different car in each
round, having nominated/chosen that car prior to joining the server on
the evening of the race.
Any member who would prefer to race in the same car throughout the
series, is welcome to do so, but would only pick up points in the first
race they competed.
The available cars are similar in performance, although some have a speed/power advantage over others. The strategy element of choosing the right car for the right track, or having the luck of taking a better performing car, when others have selected slower cars, can lead to more unpredicable results. However, the drivers who best cope with the challenge this offers will top the table.
Starting in March, as a change to the 'Series' concept, we'll be holding a 'Special One-Off' type event every 4 weeks.
The format will change from one event to another. The first 'Special' will be along the lines of the Formula Ford Festival held at Xmas, which seemed to be popular with many, although this time we'll visit Lime Rock Park, as it's another short track, that should provide opportunities for some more exciting racing.
Other specials will include the 'Healey Frog-Eye Sprites', and a number of other 'single make' events, from the HistorX Mod, and more.
Also, to coincide with the world motorsport calendar, we'd hope to maybe include some specials timed around the Indy 500 & Le Mans etc.
I'd like to announce changes to RaceConnects Incident Reporting & Judicial Systems.
Firstly, Im aware that there has been some heavy critiscm in regards to the judicial system at RaceConnect or perhaps lost faith in how the system handles these issues. The old Race Jury has in fact been abolished and we will proceed as follows.
The system has now had an overhaul. Penalties for the most part will be adjudicated by Ross & I. What I'd like to hammer home, is the ideal of clean driving at RaceConnect so that our inboxes do not become inundated with reports from every race. We're trying to achieve an enjoyable environment where drivers aren't afraid of making moves, but at the same time the rules must be obeyed and respected.
Im looking for a faster system, where the rulings are announced quickly, so that penalties and their application have some point and dont fade into oblivion.
Important:-
Please remember that any penalties that are given out will be of course the opinion of Ross and/or I and in some cases, in difficult incidents, we will confer to reach a suitable outcome. We'd ask that all rulings, as before are taken in a professional manner. Added to that, we will attempt to answer all Race Incident Reports with an answer of some sort. But bear in mind, these things take time.
Lastly, when filling out Race Incident Reports, please try to be as accurate as possible, it saves us a lot of time and will in turn make the system far more efficient. All rulings since the start of September have been adjudicated in the above way and reports from the E 9 Zero World Tour race will appear in the Monthly Penalty Log in the forum before the day is out.
Round 3 of the DRM Challenge Cup was a first visit for RaceConnect to the Solitude Circuit. The Solitude Circuit has been on the 'sim-racing' map for many
years (initially in GPL), it's only recently been released for rfactor,
and offers a terrific challenge through the wooded roads near Stuttgart.
Thank you to all who were able to support the event. Lims Chebbi ended up mastering 'The Rollercoaster', and taking the top step of the podium, after running a consistent race. Early leader Paul Le Messurier took the 2nd sopt, with Ross Hawkey completing the podium.
The champhionship is closing at the top, with just 2 points separating Lims & Ross, after 3 rounds. The next round sees a complete contrast to the Solitude circuit, with a visit to Reims. With it's long straights and hairpins, the racing should be no less exciting. It's an easier track to learn, so hopefully we'll see a strong grid.
Entry for the next round is building. Anyone wishing to join the series, is welcome to do so, and the race registration can be made HERE .
Solitude has been nicknamed 'The Rollercoaster', and anyone running a few laps of practice will realise why. The forum showing cars used to date can be found HERE .
The penultimate Round of the RaceConnect GT Pro Series, will be hosted by the Mugello circuit in Italy on Sunday. Testing done to date suggests that the GT1's and GT2's could be fairly close in terms of laptimes. The grid is filling well for Sunday's race, with the GT2 spaces almost full, and GT1 with a few more spaces.
In the last round @ Dijon, the GT1 event saw Matt Farrow continue his dominance in the Championship, with another strong drive. The final podium positions were taken by Ross Hawkey, and Adam Jamka, who ran a great race, and following his positive results in the CORR Trucks on Saturday, is on a great run of form. Strong points finishes for the Chequered Flag team in GT1, saw them increase their lead in the standings.
In GT2, Nigel Middleton finished in P2, splitting the Blue Spykers of MBP's Paul Le Gallez & Daniel Vaudin, to maintain his lead in the championship. However, unlike GT1, the GT2 Championship is proving to be a much tighter affair. Paul Le Gallez's win, puts him within 10 points of the leader, with Jon Turner in P2, after some steady finishes. Chequered Flag also lead GT2, but MPB, with a One/Three finish, clawed back some of the gap.
Following this weekends race, the final round will be held at the Oschersleben in Germany.
It'd be great if we can see the numbers that took to the grid in earlier rounds. If you're looking to join future races, then events are on a race by race basis. Registration can be made HERE.
